The Future of Sport & Leisure

Modern well equipped sports centres offering wider activity options, investment in and better support for grassroots sports clubs and associations and better value for money. These are the driving forces at the heart of a brand new sport and leisure strategy which aims to get more people active in County Durham and will go before the council’s Cabinet next week. (March 2)

Following extensive consultation with residents, partner organisations, schools and community sports providers last year Durham County Council is proposing a new way to deliver sport and leisure across the county. The aim – to broaden the range of activities on offer, increase the number of people participating (Target 0.5 per cent each year) and address the current over provision of Leisure Centres.
