Deerness Gymnastics Academy Prepare For World Championships In America

Eleven Acro-gymnasts from the North East are into their final weeks of training before they travel to America for the World Championships.

Gymnasts from the Deerness Gymnastics Academy qualified for events including Mens’ Pairs, Mixed Pairs, Men’s Group and Women’s Group.

Jesse Heskett, 17, from Sunderland is part of the Men’s Group. He said: “It’s been hard work to get this far. A lot of blood, sweat and tears. We still have four weeks to go.”

Newcastle College student Alex Houston, also part of the Men’s Group, said: “I suffer from cystic fibrosis, and originally came to gymnastics as a way to keep fit. I love it and can’t believe I am going to America to compete.”

The World Championships take place in Florida from April 12 to April 19.
