Deerness Tumblers Take Four Gold – Sky Tyne and Wear

Deerness Gymnastics Academy is celebrating after eight of their young tumblers represented the region in a national competition last weekend – with half of them returning with a GOLD medal.

Eve Coates, age 11 (NDP 3 age 11-12), Hope Rackstraw, age 16 (NDP 4 age 15+), Rebekah Pattinson, age 14 (NDP 5 age 15+) and Erin Stone, age 14 (NDP 5 age 13-14) all won GOLD medals in their respective categories.

The Deerness gymnasts qualified for the national finals after all winning gold in the regional finals earlier this year. In total hundreds of gymnasts from across the country thrilled and entertained the judges with their with non-stop action of high-flying somersaults and twists and fast-paced tumbling at the event in Stoke.

“These are great results for the club, and great to see the hard work of the coaches and gymnasts being rewarded,” said Glen Wharton, head of tumbling at Deerness Gymnastics Academy.

“Deerness Gymnastics Academy has a strong history as a gymnastics club and even though tumbling is a relatively new discipline for us we have been able to achieve a lot in short amount of time, we have celebrated European and World medals as well as regularly contributing members to the GB squads. We are all now working hard towards the British Championships with 19 of our tumblers qualifying for that event in July.”
