In County Durham, two schools which formed a partnership four years ago have revealed 2010 has been the best yet for GCSEs.The Durham Federation, which is made up of Durham Community Business College in Ushaw Moor and Fyndoune Community College in Sacriston, have each achieved a 97% pass rate for pupils gaining five or more A to C grades.Principal Trevor Dunn described the results as “breathtaking”.

Laying foundations for construction course From The Northern Echo

PUPILS  at four north Durham secondary schools have completed a two-week introduction to the construction industry.The vocational programme was designed to prepare youngsters for a two-year BTEC course, which they will begin in September.The course, run by the Durham Education Business Partnership, included workshops, team building activities, taster sessions and site visits. It was supported by 17 businesses.Highlights included visits to Clowbeck Eco-Centre, in Croft-on-Tees, near Darlington, and S&D Training, in Newton Aycliffe.The pupils were from Durham Community Business College, in Ushaw Moor; Fyndoune Community College, in Sacriston; and Belmont School Community Arts College and Durham Johnston School, both in Durham.
