It’s just like watching Barcelona From Durham Times

A DURHAM junior football team has followed the lead of Spanish giants Barcelona and sealed a sponsorship deal with a major charity.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust will be shown on the shirts of Deerness Valley Under-14s thanks to local business Allied Security Northern Ltd, which has donated the money for a new kit for the Russell Foster League team. But after hearing that team manager Colin Young is taking part in the Great North Run on Sunday to raise money for the trust in honour of his one-yearold grandson Jack, who was born with the disease, managing director Julie Pennal decided to put the charity logo on the team shirts, rather than the company’s.

For years, former European champions Barcelona have refused to put corporate advertisements on their chests. But four years ago, they signed a five-year deal with UNICEF.
