Durham County League
Esh Winning are just one victory away from being crowned Durham County League champions after a 72-run success over Ushaw Moor took them 22 points clear of Brandon with just two matches left to play.
John Carmedy hit eight fours and two sixes in his 53 as Esh set a target of 198-9, but he had to hand centre stage to Eddie Watson who added five wickets to his own unbeaten half century as Esh won with ease.

Norman Ferguson rings from Ushaw Moor Cricket Club, west of Durham. They’re having a clubhouse reunion on the evening of September 3, 50 years after Norman joined the club.
The speaker, says Norman, is Bulldog Billy Teesdale. So far as reasonably may ascertained, he’s serious. “Billy’s brilliant,” says Norman.

Wheels projects:
Mobile ramps project is up and running in Deerness Leisure Centre car park. The session is on a Friday evening from 5pm to 7pm and staffed by Julie O’Connor’s PAYP team. Early indications are really positive with 40/50 young people attending from several different villages. Two issues being examined at the moment are whether we can put on a second session in the week and whether we can sustain the session once DCC sport and leisure hand over the centre to the Gymnastics club?
Ushaw Moor Action Group
The Ushaw Moor Action Group has been established to engage with the whole village community to address issues which affect us all as residents, by working together to implement improvements that make a difference in Ushaw Moor.
Over the last two years residents have supported successful campaigns which have received regional and national recognition through the Neighbourhood Watch Network. We have also fought hard to put road safety and speeding through the village high on the agenda, resulting in positive enforcement campaigns, and soon to be seen visual improvements to road safety supported by the police with the installation of “Gateways” to entrances to the village, and further traffic calming measures on Station Road being approved by the Area Action Partnership.
